Cycling Gearing Up to be a Cranking Competition
Whether it is the long stretches of bitumen for road racing or the world-class velodrome, there is no better place for bicycle racing than Alice Springs.
The Alice Springs Masters Games competition is exceptional value for money with the $50 sports fee covering all cycling events including the:
• 20km Road Time Trial: Sat 6.45am
• Road Criterium: Sun 7am
• Road Races All Grades: Tues 6am
• Road Street Sprint: Thurs 7pm
• Track: Scratch Race, Sprints & Flying 200: Fri 4.30pm
The competition attracts more than 80 competitors from all over the country with an especially strong contingent from Victoria.
The 2016 competition is coordinated by local veterinarian Kathy Moylan, a woman who is no stranger to bicycles. She is well known for being on her bike around town and is affectionately known as the woman on two wheels.
Kathy’s sporting life started with Netball, then Running and Triathlon until she realised that;
“Cycling is the only pursuit that is necessary in life”.
Kathy has previously coordinated the Triathlon/Duathlon competition at the Alice Springs Masters Games. She first competed in 2000, the year after she arrived in Alice Springs in 1999.
It’s clear when talking to Kathy about the competition that she is passionate about cycling. Whether it is the amazing landscapes providing an inspiring backdrop to the Time Trial and road races, or the world class Criterium course and velodrome track, she genuinely gets excited about the fantastic competition on offer.
