Tennis Serving Up an Ace Competition!
The Alice Springs Masters Games is the perfect opportunity for sportspeople to compete in multiple events and sports. Competitions are held throughout the day and into the evening giving participants the opportunity to try their hand at a sport outside of their favourite events. Many of our competitions are social events so why not try your hand at a new sport or perhaps a sport that you haven’t played in a while?
One sport that is more than accommodating for those wishing to register as their second sport is tennis. Coordinator Matt Roberts said that the structure of the tennis competition allows for lots of flexibility.
“Tennis is very accommodating to athlete’s schedules,” Roberts said.
“You can play one short game of tennis a day either in the morning or evening and then go and compete in your other events for the rest of the day.
“With a fee of $40 for 5 days of competition that includes free equipment hire, it is a very affordable deal.”
There are several events to choose from in the Tennis competition with singles, doubles and mixed doubles on offer. Matt says that there are plenty of medals to be awarded across the different age categories. Being a round robin format means that there is also plenty of opportunity to play several matches.
Other sports that you may be interested in taking up as a second sport include the Masters Mile or the new sport of Tug Of War. Coordinators of these events encourage everyone to participate and get into the social spirit of the Games.
So if you have some spare time while at the Games why not register with another sport such as tennis – it’s a great way to meet new people and keep active.
