Volunteer Profile – Beverley Devine

Beverley is a retiree from Queensland who moved to Alice Springs in 2011 and immediately fell in love with the town.  She has been volunteering at the Games since 2012 working on the Information Desk.  Beverley is heavily involved in the community, volunteering at the hospital and meeting tourists at the airport for Tourism Central Australia.

Beverley loves being involved in the Games giving her an opportunity to meet people from all over Australia.  She says that you are so well looked after as a volunteer being fed every day and given merchandise such as a shirt and backpack.  Beverley has encouraged her friends to take a week off work,

“Just get in and do it, it’s too much fun!”.

You might see Beverley staging medal presentations for those who missed out on their ceremonies. The volunteer team is to be commended for their efforts providing this service to those who missed out.

For those on their first trip to Alice, Beverley says that “There is so much history and things to see.  The town doesn’t stop during winter.”

Bev suggests that visitors go to see the Araluen Art Centre, Alice Springs Desert Park, Macdonnell Ranges, the School of the Air and the Telegraph Station.  Be sure to pop in to the Information Desk to say hi to Beverley and ask for some local knowledge!
